This policy explains what information is collected when you use caryearly.com ("CarYearly", "we", "us") and the choices you have.
VINs you enter
When you use the VIN decoder, your browser sends the VIN directly to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): to its vPIC service to decode it and to its recall service to list recalls. The VIN never reaches our server, we don't store or log it, and it is never added to a web address. NHTSA's handling of the request is covered by NHTSA's own privacy policy.
Information we collect
- No accounts or forms. You can use every page without signing up or giving us your name or email address. If you email us, we use your message only to reply.
- Technical data. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and pages requested in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are popular. It uses cookies and collects information such as pages visited, approximate location and device type. Learn how Google uses this information at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, and opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Advertising
The site is funded by advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Ads Settings, and from some other vendors at www.aboutads.info. We may also work with other advertising partners, such as Mediavine, and use Grow by Mediavine to measure reader engagement; these partners may use cookies and similar technologies as described in their own privacy policies.
Partner links
If you follow a marked partner link, for example to a vehicle history report, the partner may use cookies to record that you came from us so we can be paid. Anything you buy or enter there is covered by the partner's privacy policy.
Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will see a consent message before cookies are used for personalized advertising or analytics, and you can change your choices at any time from the privacy choices link on the site.
Your rights in U.S. states
Residents of some U.S. states, including California, have rights over their personal information, such as the right to know what is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising. Because advertising cookies can count as sharing under these laws, you can opt out using the privacy choices link on the site, or by emailing hello@caryearly.com. We do not sell personal information in any other way.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when we add or change advertising or analytics partners. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
