Our pages exist to report official data accurately. This policy explains how they're made and how the site earns money without that affecting what you read.
How pages are written
- Data first. Every figure comes from EPA or NHTSA data and is calculated by code. Sentences on model pages are generated from that data using fixed wording rules; no figures are written by hand or by AI.
- No verdicts. We don't rate or review cars, and we don't call a model year reliable, unreliable, best or worst. Where people ask "which years to avoid", we answer with complaint counts and their limits.
- Owner reports are labelled. Complaints are unverified reports to NHTSA, and every quote is marked as such. Recalls and crash ratings are official NHTSA records, and we keep the two clearly apart.
- Guides are written from NHTSA's VIN rules and the government tools they link to, and checked against those sources.
Advertising
The site is funded by display advertising. Ads are labelled, never placed above a page's main answer, and never inside the VIN decoder. Advertisers have no say over our content.
Affiliate links
Some pages may offer a paid vehicle history report or parts from partners who pay us a fee if you buy. These links are marked as partner links, appear only after the free information on the page, and use rel="sponsored". Which partners we use never changes the data, the recall lists or the order of anything on a page.
Corrections
If something is wrong, email hello@caryearly.com with the page and the issue. We check every report against the source data, fix confirmed errors, and the next data refresh carries the fix to every affected page.
